Worldwide WarDrive Info

Ok, here is a little history on this effort. I (along with a lot of help) organized the DefCon 10 WarDriving contest that took place a couple of weeks ago. After I got back home, I was talking with The Watcher on the Netstumbler Forums and found out we live pretty close to each other.

We thought it would be fun to try to coordinate a WarDrive to cover the entire city of Baltimore and started a thread on the Netstumbler Forums to see if there was any interest. Well, it turns out there was. As things progressed, Renderman decided to do a coordinated drive in his area. This led him to contact me about the possibility of a "World Stumbling Day." Turns out that Blackwave and Mentat had discussed this very idea in the past.

I had posted this idea on the Defcon Forums and got some response there as well. Blackwave suggested that I start a little message board to allow people to coordinate even if they aren't a member of one or the other forum.

I threw a script together in about 5 minutes by re-cycling one of my old slogan scripts from DefCon. We then decided to move most of the info over to the
Thanks to Pete Shipley for creating and moderating the list with me.

Well, anyway, that brings us to the First WorldWide WarDrive.

The turnout for the first WorldWide WarDrive was even better than we had expected and there was an immediate influx of questions as to when we would do it again. Because of the Slashdotting that we received we decided to pull the info off of my current server and so I set this one up so that worldwidewardrive.org could have it's own home.

So there you have the history of the WorldWide WarDrive. Hopefully any other questions you might have are answered in the FAQ.
